Discover the south of Tuscany

The places we recommend:

Tatti – the Medieval village

We are on the outskirts of Tatti, which is linked to farming and to mining from prehistoric times until the last century.

Tatti maintains its defence walls, the tower and consists of narrow streets, arches, stone houses and a main square with a cistern to collect rainwater. From the top of the hill and in view of the sea, it overlooks fields, olive groves and woods, in which there are itineraries to be covered on foot, by bike and on horseback.

Beaches, rivers, lakes and hot springs

You can choose between equipped, wild, sandy, and rocky beaches. We recommend the Sterpaia Park, the Maremma Regional Park, several oases and reserves, the Cala Violina and Punta Ala beaches.

About 25 minutes away is the lago dell’Accesa (lake), perfect for those seeking relaxation in a peaceful setting. And why not discover the wonderful hot springs? Close to us are several natural spas that have been used since Roman times: Calidario, Petriolo and Saturnia.

Cities, villages und churches

The austere and mysterious Abbey of San Galgano owes much of its charm to the absence of the roof and the isolated position. Just a few steps up the hill you will find the unique sanctuary of Montesiepi with the sword embedded in a rock.

We recommend also to visit Massa Marittima and its beautiful square. Siena is an hour from us, and a little further: Pitigliano, San Gimignano, Volterra and Firenze.

Art and theme parks

The Tuscan Mining Geopark (Parco Nazionale delle Colline Metallifere) is an important mining park in Tuscany.

In the Tarot Garden of Niki de Saint Phalle, surrounded by wild-growing vegetation, you will find huge mosaic sculptures. Another contemporary art garden is the Giardino di Daniel Spoerri filled with installations and sculptures. The Giardino dei Suoni (Sound Garden) of the artist Paul Fuchs is just a short way from Tatti.

Archeology

Ours is Etruscan land, the signs of this civilisation can be found at the seaside and the hinterland. The archaeological parks of Baratti and Populonia embedded in and extraordinary naturalistic scenery are unforgettable.

In addition to the Etruscan civilization, the area is rich in prehistoric and Vallenovan archaeological finds: Lago dell’Accesa, Vetulonia, Roselle Park, which is hosting every year a music and theatre festival.

Architecture and wine

Just a short drive from us is Sequerciani, a winery that combines tradition and innovation. Its new cellar, designed by architect Sergio Cavero, is a true gem of the region. We recommend visiting it to discover its natural and biodynamic wines through a captivating tasting experience.

If you love the fusion of wine and architecture, don’t miss some of the most iconic wineries in the area: Rocca di Frassinello, designed by Renzo Piano, and Petra, a masterpiece by architect Mario Botta.

The wineries Ampeleia, I Campetti, and Morisfarm are also worth a visit for their excellent tastings and the opportunity to purchase fine wines and local specialties.

Let yourself be surprised by the flavors and travel with your senses.
